Healthy Living Centres are a physical base from which to deliver a range of services and programmes aimed at addressing the health and well-being of people in deprived communities.
Their common purpose is the promotion of health and healthy living to people of all ages. Their practices are linked to local health targets and operated within the context of public health strategy. They complement existing government provision without replacing it and encourage active local participation.
The aim of the Shirebrook Healthy Living Centre is to facilitate the provision of:
- pharmacy, opticians' and dentists' suites
- areas for health promotion activity
- rooms for use on a sessional basis by a wide range of health and care professionals
- rooms for use on a sessional basis by patient groups, carer groups and other groups with a health or community focus
- exercise classes for the elderly and disabled
- therapy services usually unavailable in the locality (through visiting therapists)
The completion of the building has created a functional space ideal for the above activities, located adjacent to local healthcare facilities and within easy reach of surrounding towns. The Healthy Living Centre is intended to be an accessible community facility and its rooms are therefore available for lease at nominal and negotiable rents.
